  • Jonathan Gelles, D.Phil. - Chairman
    .
  • Jack Keene, Ph.D.
    Dr. Keene is the James B. Duke Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology where he founded the Center for RNA Biology in 1999. He served as chairman of the Department of Microbiology from 1992-2002 and as director of basic sciences for the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1995-2003. 

    Dr. Keene's research focuses on the structure and function of RNA-binding proteins in mammalian cells and viruses. His recent work uses RNA-binding proteins for gene expression profiling using microarrays and other genomic methods in order to understand the organization and dynamics of messenger RNAs in organs and tumors. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Riverside, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle; his postdoctoral work was at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda before coming to Duke University in 1978.
  • Sacha De Micheli
    Mr. De Micheli graduated in econometrics at the University of Zürich, Switzerland.  Mr. De Micheli is a senior analyst and manager of private equity investments in the biotechnology sector at BSI SA, a privately held Swiss bank.  In addition, Mr. De Micheli is also the manager of BSI - New Biomedical Frontier fund (SICAV), an open-end fund which invests globally in public companies in the biotechnology sector.

  • Karen A. Scappaticci, Ph.D.
    Dr. Scappaticci is currently President of The Scappaticci Steinberg Foundation and is an Independent Pharmaceuticals Consultant.
  • Geoffrey F. Cox Ph.D.
    Dr. Cox has over 35 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience in a broad range of senior management positions in operations management, as a CEO and as a member of the board of public companies.

    In 1984, Dr. Cox joined Genzyme Corporation in the U.K. and then, in 1988, became Senior Vice President, Operations in the U.S. Dr. Cox later became Executive Vice President responsible for operations and the pharmaceutical, diagnostic and genetics business units of Genzyme. Prior to joining Genzyme, Dr. Cox was General Manager of the U.K. manufacturing operations for Gist-Brocades.

    In 1997, Dr.Cox became Chairman and CEO of Aronex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., based in The Woodlands, Texas, and subsequently, in July 2001, he became Chairman, President and CEO of GTC Biotherapeutics,Inc., based in Framingham, Massachusetts, a position he held until June 2010.

    Dr. Cox is non-executive Chairman of the Board of Nabi Biopharmaceuticals and Chairman of the Board of MassBio, the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. He also served for a number of years on the Board of the Biotechnology Industry Organization and also as a member of their Emerging Companies Section and Healthcare Section Governing Body Committees.

    Dr. Cox received a B.Sc.(Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Birmingham, U.K. and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of East Anglia, U.K.
