  • Janice Kimpel, Ph.D., VP Business Development
    Dr. Janice Kimpel has been Vice President, Business Development for AlphaVax, Inc. since 2000, where she has overseen the develpment and implementation of its business strategy from a research-based company to a clinical stage company.  In addition to leading the business development function, she has directed the intellectual property strategy for protecting AlphaVax's novel alphaviral vector platform and its applications.  Prior to joining AlphaVax, she was a registered patent agent practicing at the intellectual property boutique Needle & Rosenberg in Atlanta.  Prior to joining the law firm she was Director of Technology Licensing at the University of Georgia, where she was responsible for licensing diverse technologies including pharmaceuticals, veterinary vaccines, and recombinant DNA discoveries. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
  • Robert Olmsted, Ph.D., VP Research
    Dr. Robert Olmsted was most recently the leader of the RNA Virus Antiviral Program Team at Pharmacia & Upjohn, where he initiated and headed the antiviral drug discovery effort for the hepatitis C virus. While a research assistant professor at Georgetown University, he led an effort to develop a feline model for AIDS (feline immunodeficiency virus). Dr. Olmsted graduated from Alfred University and North Carolina State University and conducted postdoctoral research in the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a division of NIH.
  • Andrew Graham, M.S., VP Development & Technical Operations
    Andrew Graham joined our team in 2004 from Aventis Pasteur, where he worked for 16 years and was most recently Senior Director of Industrialization for the company's vaccine operations. Mr. Graham, a Canadian citizen, received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from McGill University in Montreal and a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario. He has more than 20 years of experience in academia and industry working on the complex biological processes of vaccine development.
  • Lynn G. Baird, Ph.D., VP Regulatory, Quality and Clinical Operations
    Dr. Lynn Baird joined us in 2009 from CombinatoRx, a biopharma company specializing in the development of novel combination products where she was Senior Vice President of Regulatory, Quality and Clinical Operations. Prior to that, she held senior management positions in a number of biotechnology companies including Dyax, Curis/Reprogenesis and Cytotherapeutics where she gained extensive experience in all aspects of the development of recombinant proteins as well as cell therapy products. Dr. Baird earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. in microbiology/immunology from Virginia Commonwealth University.
  • Tim Gupton, CPA, CFO
    Tim Gupton is a senior partner at Hughes, Pittman & Gupton, LLP, a public accounting firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is a general partner with Research Triangle Ventures. As our CFO, he is responsible for strategic financial planning, financial reporting to investors and management, internal controls, cash forecasting, acquisition of equity, and debt financing. Previously, Mr. Gupton was a partner with KPMG Peat Marwick and has co-founded and served as start-up CFO for several biotechnology companies, including Trimeris, Inc., Inspire Pharmaceuticals, and SARCO, Inc. Mr. Gupton is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
